Missing on Maui Reader's Reviews

Reader: Alissa

What did you like about the story?

I liked the way that the author entwined the kidnapper into the plot so you were knowledgeable of their personality before you found out that they had committed the crime.

Which character did you like best? Why?

My favorite character has to be Kona, he's adventurous, intellectual and very down to earth. Even though he is made out to be a hunk, extremely smart and athletic, his personality isn't over the top and egotistic

Is there anything about Hannah or Niki that reminds you of yourself?

Hannah reminds me of myself because of the way she acted in the mornings. Every time she woke up grumpy and made Niki feel bad she felt extremely guilty and eventually tried to make it up to her, I usually feel the same way when I make someone feel bad.

Did you learn anything about Maui that you did not know before?

One of the best parts of the book also, is how the authors threaded in pieces of history about Maui into the story plot. I never knew about how King Kamehameha had wanted to reunite the islands so brutally and how there were so many dead bodies floating in the stream below the Iao Needle that it dammed up the water passage! How sick!

What in the story reminds you of adventures in your life?

Well, I haven't been nearly attacked by a shark or helped hunt down a kidnapper, but an adventure I had to tackle many times before is having to work and cooperate with someone whom you really do not like! When I read about Sally being such a snob and how much Hannah and Niki did not want to spend time with her it reminded me of a few times I was stuck in the same position

Do you have any other comments about the book?

I think the book was great! Even though I have been to Maui once before, I hadn't known about all of the interesting history the island contained! The plot was exciting and kept you on the edge of your seat continually reading! I recommend this book to anyone who likes to take adventures and is interested in history!

What did you think of the story?

The think I liked most about this book was that it was about two girls who are independent and are risk takers for the good of many people. Most things these days it seems, that everything is about guys being the hero.

Which character did you like the best? Why?

I actually liked Kona the best, even though he is not a girl. I liked that he has a lot of knowledge about his background and his country’s culture. Many of us probably don’t know anything about our culture, which is not that good.

Is there anything about Hannah or Niki that reminds you of yourself? If so, what?

I think I have good leadership skills like them, and I’m pretty girlie when it comes to shopping and boys. I too have a very close friendship like them.

Did you learn anything new about Maui that you didn’t know before?

I learned so many new things about Maui. Practically everything that the book said about Maui was new to me. I’ve never done any research or learned about it before.

Did the story remain you of any mysteries or adventures in your life? If so, describe your adventure.

I have never had a mystery like they solved with Lialani disappearance before. I’ve had tasks I had to finish with a side or team to do. It was our last project on the Civil war and we were split into 2 sides, the North and the South, and we were assigned projects to do and do anything extra to ear your side points like decorate you side to represent either the North or the South, and, where the Union and Confederate colors, and things like that.
